It also tells you about the similar Protalbin paper http://www.knaw.nl/ecpa/sepia/exhibition/iapp/Glossary/P_17.htm which used "an alcohol-soluble vegetable albumen obtained from corn" and was particularly popular in the tropics. And, best of all I've looked at so far, it takes you to a fascinating article on Collodio-Chloride Papers by Sylvie Penichon in the Journal of the American Institute for Conservation: http://aic.stanford.edu/jaic/articles/jaic38-02-002_3.html Her feature "DIFFERENCES IN IMAGE TONALITY PRODUCED BY DIFFERENT TONING PROTOCOLS FOR MATTE COLLODION PHOTOGRAPHS" starts at http://aic.stanford.edu/jaic/articles/jaic38-02-002_1.html with the sentence: "For many years, caretakers of photograph collections and photograph conservators have mistakenly identified matte collodion prints as platinum prints." This may have a particular interest here given some past conversations about the mistaken classification of kallitypes as platinum prints. Peter.
