I can't remember if this list allows (probably does) reply posts thru email (cameramakers no longer does, requiring a site visit), but I'll try... I think the wearing surface is probably the weak link, but as far as adhesives go, I think acrylic adhesives are the most aggressive. Look at McMaster-Carr. They have some products I've gotten elsewhere, a fiberglass reinforced teflon weave with some industrial strength adhesive. I buy that in fixed lengths for a heat sealer for shrinkwrap. I have some FEP (teflon variant), Kapton and one other smooth hard plastic white artist's tape I'd be happy to send you a couple feet of [sorry, original poster only :O( ]. All are self-adhesive. There are also some thin foam tape variants (I can only find the thicker stuff I need as an OEM item) that have nearly unremovable adhesives. I think McMaster has
