Re: Liquid Emulsion - Air Bubbles

Just forgotten to mention that it is crucial for me to 'warm-up' the paper before coating.

Hi Rita, I always use two coats of hardened gelatine (formaldehyde hardener) under emulsion. I do sometimes get air bubbles, but mostly because of brushing too fast or just plain carelessness. I like the matt texture of the emulsion on paper, but using gelatine size there is a subtle shine. I'm interested in Ryuji's addition of AC235, might try this next time. It was Kremer antifoam I was trying to remember by the way.

Re: Liquid Emulsion - Air Bubbles

Henk and Ryuji,

Thanks, and, no, the advice is not too late.  And I was pleased, and surprised, by the thread you included from Ryuji;  somehow that hadn't come through to me directly from the list.

Since I'm coating on paper, which seemed to accept the emulsion well, I hadn't been adding (additional) sizing.  Am I making a mistake, Ryuji, especially if I'd like a bit more shine to the surface?

Thanks again.

Rita
