If trisodium phosphate is the sole ingredient of the package
you find in a hardware store, you can use it. There are some
"trisodium phosphate" products that are not trisodium
phosphate. They usually say "substitute" or something in very
small print, and they usually use silicate, carbonate, or some
combination of others. I'd recommend to stay away from them.
Also, potassium carbonate (about 50g/L), or a combination of
sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide may be used. There are
several people who tried these substitutions with good
results.
I may be able to get a summary of these variations if there's
sufficient interest. (I guess there is.)
