Re: Eastman House gum prints

Chris, I don't really blame Paul for gum pigment ratio test disease... anyone can make a mistake ("To err is human": A. Pope) and what he did in a relatively short period BEFORE the internet is very impressive. I have his book on Pictorial Photography (marked "out of print" & bought for $12.50 at Strand before pictorial became the thing), have read it at least twice and appreciate MUCH of its content. I blame the lazy cut-and-pasters who appropriated it, usually WITHOUT credit, and obviously without checking or testing...
Well, you'll be happy to know I just came across Anderson's articles on gum in the 1912, 1913, 1914 and 1920 American Photography books. The 1920 was a repeat of 1912's Multiple Gum article, though. Thank God for digital cameras, if I had to read all that at once (about 32pp of the 1913/14 sections) I would never get out of here. I already have the 1935 articles on the same subject by him at home, so they could be a repeat of the 1913/14 is my guess.

I also photoed a couple articles on double printing pt/pd--even though I swore to myself I would NOT NOT research pt/pd. There is such a plethora of bromoil and pt/pd articles. No casein as of yet, Sam. Except using it as a size, and I didn't think you'd be interested in that since you don't size your gums, even.

Have corroborated in two or more sources, now, the originator of gum over platinum (Silberer) who was doing so in 1901 because his article came out Jan 5 1902 in the Allgemeine Sport-Zeitung--what the heck is that???

One more day in the stacks and I haven't even made it to the 60's!!! What am I going to do...oh, did I tell you that the Eastman House has 100 different photographic journals??? Yegads.
Chris
