RE : "Solar plate"
The use of these photosensitive plates, which come from flexography, enables you to make engravings from continuous tones positives with similar characteristics as you can obtain with the traditional photogravure process, but in a shorter time and a simpler way.
I think the sensitivity of those plates is proportional with the depth on the polymer... In fact, near the support plate, the bottom of the polymer's layer is hardened in first during the exposition. By the way, there is no need of transfer like in traditional photogravure.
Because of the "huge" thickness of the polymer layer, it is possible to have different grey tones.
