The general rule in publishing is five times the cost of production is retail.

While this is for books, recomended by the self publishing Academy, PMA (Publishers Marketing Association) I found the formula holds true for photography. Once there is a demand, then the price goes up according to supply and that demand.

DEAR LIST,
Possibly an off topic pricing question.
I am having some mural prints made of my photos. I will be scanning
the original negs, working on the files in Frotoshop and then having them
output on a BIG Epson using the archival pigments. My question is not
technical but about pricing.
How much of a mark up should I take on the actual cost of making the
print(s)? E.g., let's assume I am having a 4' X 6' print made and the hard
costs (just guessing) for the print will be $750. How much would you
suggest that I charge for the print? At this point let's assume that I will
not be limiting the edition.
As this may be of NO interest to others on the list, please feel
free to contact me off list. If you feel that it might be of interest, send
on list.
CHEERS!
BOB
