The 3800 when used for making inkjet prints is probably the smoothest
that Epson has produced yet. However, for some odd reason, as Sandy King
noted, the digital negatives, though they look smooth as can be, produce a
visible speckling in smooth tones. I haven't had time yet to play with
this and see if there is a workaround... or if this is a head
allignment thing, etc. It is an incredibly nice printer to work with—I
have worked with both the 3800 & 4800 and would choose the 3800 so
far.....unless there is no solution to the speckle problem.
Like everything else, it is two steps forward and one step back.
