Re: press

Hi Scott,

Good for you! You're looking for an intaglio printing press. The bigger the drum the better. From my experience, presses with smaller drums are a little more affordable, but don't generate the pressure needed to get a nice sharp print using this process. Whatever you do, don't skimp on the drum size. The one I use has a 10" drum, which is perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Takach makes the best in the world, in my opinion. They are extremely difficult to find used, however (because they're so good):

Best of luck,

All this talk about photogravures has inspired me to try this out. I am
going to start looking for a press. My dept. chair said to go as cheap as
possible (used) but will back me up. I need to know exactly which type of
press will print these plates. Is this a lithographers press? Any
information will be appreciated. Also are there sources for this type of
equipment?

Thanks,
