Hmm..Perhaps the check is enough to clear the nozzles a little. I'll try that.

FWIW, I simply do a nozzle check before printing and rarely need to do a
head cleaning with my 2200, knock on wood! I've never had banding problems
but have had the occasional head strike if I am not careful about loading
the OHP.

I have to run the head cleaning often also to avoid banding. Not as
much as you, but probably after every fourth or fifth negative, and
always after the printer has not been used for more than a week.
