One place to go to see amazing old photos, many historical (Alt) processes, is the Wisconsin State Historical Society. They have an amazing collection. http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/ Also the HH Bennett Studio historical site is interesting and is about an hour from madison. It's a museum recreation of a 1880's photo studio. http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/hhbennett/ Check to see what the winter hours are.
