Modernism was the embrace of the modern, the rapidly-changing world of the turn of the twentieth century, which quickly lost its gloss in the horrors of World War 1.
Post-modernism was the rejection of the virtues of progress and modern life, so roughly speaking, the Beat Generation through Generation X.
