Gregg,
I think it is a great idea--the more websites the merrier on alt, IMHO. I think alternativephotography.com is an excellent site (probably the most comprehensive alt site at this moment in time) as is Unblinkingeye.com, bostick-sullivan.com, www.permadocument.be, etc. So even a listing of all these wonderful website links would be a service to the alt community.

A list of shows or call for entries would be great. Would you be U.S. centric or include Europe as well?

I do belong to Art Deadlines.com and that is great for calls for entries, but to weed out what shows prefer alt is really difficult.

And you can add this item to your website right away, below: :)

I am in a duo show on Katrina with Chris Jordan at Bellevue Community College, Bellevue Washington April 2nd - April 24th, Reception: Wednesday, April 2 4:30 - 7:00. All of my images are alt--gum (mostly gum, actually), platinum, cyanotype, and combinations thereof, with perhaps two mordancages. Juxtaposed with Chris Jordan's work, it should be interesting, as he is "large color works". BCC had a Dust Bowl show not long ago and Eric Tomberlin who is curating the show wanted to do a similar theme on an event closer to home with students nowadays. I am really excited about the show even though I cannot be there for the reception :( so if anyone goes, take pix.

Another thing, and this relates to SPE or Society of Photographic Education. The national conference is coming up in Denver March 13-16. I will be going (I guess I have to attend all nationals now that I am a board member) and it'd be great to do a wine/whine night in the Denver hotel bar (Adam Mark?) with any alt listers. There will also be a NW regional SPE meeting in Spokane in April as will there be a NW regional meeting in Bozeman MT in the Fall Oct 10-11 that we are putting on at MSU. I keep trying to convince our faculty we need some "slap the bull" contests or skinny dipping in the Boiling River but they are seeking tamer events such as photographing Yellowstone Park and fly fishing...
Chris

The alternativephotography.com site is an excellent site for alt photo process practitioners. I browse it myself quite often. What I have in mind is a little different - a database driven listing of exhibitions, workshops, lectures, etc. to help promote exhibiting alt photo artists to others interested in attending these events. So the target audience is little different, including people interested in gallery/museum shows, but not necessarily interested in doing it themselves. My thoughts are that this would be based on my pinhole.com site, with expanded coverage of alt photo process events. But I'm not committed to the idea, just exploring it. Thanks for your feedback.

Hello Greg,

Please take a look at our website. We (Atelier pH7) have been active
in the alternative photography field since 1998 and would be pleased
to cooperate with your initiative.
With our best greetings,

Thank you, Diana for the welcome.

I've been interested in alternative photo processes for some time
(years), but have never taken the plunge into it. I was introduced
to pinhole photography around 1972, and have been hooked on that
since.
Some of you know me through the Pinhole Visions website that I have
maintained since around 1997 ( http://www.pinhole.com ).

I finally broke down last week and ordered some cyanotype materials.
This evening I am trying out a new pinhole camera that I made that
takes
3 exposures across 180 degrees, to make a "tryptic" of the moon's
path.
The moon is almost full this evening, and there will be an eclipse!
Seems like the heavens have aligned for me at this time. Only the
forecast of cloud cover interferes. If these negatives turn out, I
plan
to use them for my first cyanotypes. And, I also thank Diana for
offering advice in working through the cyanotype printing, which I
am sure I will need in the days to come.

On another topic, I am considering setting up a website for news and

events of alternative photography. The site would be similar to the

pinhole.com website in format, but would list exhibitions,
workshops,
and
other activities and news of those involved in alternative
processes
and
alternative forms of photography (like pinhole). I believe the
usefulness of such a site would depend largely on the involvement
of members of this list. I mean involvement in the sense of
posting your events and news on the website. The Pinhole Visions
web site is a
source
of news for Google News which gives it wider coverage on the
internet.
I
believe the same thing would work for an alternative photo site as
well.
I am interested in hearing from members of this list if there is
interest
in a website like this.

Gregg
