I have built some experience and opinion on this matter
through gathering information and experimenting myself, btu I
do not know of a book on this subject.

The best scanning strategy depends a lot on the material,
scanner, software, and intended use. In many cases, the best
option is a compromise among the quality, convenience, time
and required work, like anything in life.
