Chris,

In my backyard is one of Ohio's most stubborn, indigenous species of tree, little loved by groundskeepers, known as the Hackberry. It is all over the place usually as little shrubs. Sometimes it survives to become a big tree which is what we have in my backyard. The plant has managed to adapt itself to insects feeding on its leaves by creating a "Nipple Gall", little Hershey Kisses looking structures to limit the damage done by bugs.

When I first saw it I thought it was some form of peach tree wilt but now realize it's a scarring done by the plant for protection.
