That's a variation almost without a difference... tho of course no light 
at all would be even safer.

Of course you don't stare at any of them. If you wear ordinary vision 
glasses and are careful (I keep a sheet of black vinyl around and over the 
set up, so stray glances are more or less harmless) that's safe enough, if 
you like looking at the light, get black glasses.
