Thank you so much for your quick response... I've been reading the book "Coming into Focus: A Step-by-Step Guide to Alternative Photographic Printing Processes" and in the chapter on Argyrotypes (which is the process that I've now decided to use) it says specifically that the paper used for the process is critical to the success of the same, a list of papers is given but I'd like to know what others have experimented with and any observations and/or recommendations that you think may be useful for me.

Thanks for your help,

Fernando Cruz

Like you I am interested and set up to start Calotypes. I’m told drafting papers life Clearprint, National Printfast, Staedtler are good though I’ve tried none yet.

But … I’m not sure I understand your question. Calotype is a paper negative. You’re talking about printing from negative files – do you mean ‘salt prints’ (the process normally used to print a Calotype negative). If the latter then any smooth white watercolour paper – even the cheaper ones in blocks – work well if sized. I’ve used Fabriano Artistico and Cotman Bristol (Japanese) and others. Key things are a smooth white surface and it’s helpful to give additional sizing.
