so the matrix is only washed in (cold) water to get rid of the chromate?
one more thing: is the chromated gelatin emulsion on the glass plate to be dried before exposure? or is it exposed when set (but still wet)?

and how do you people coat emulsions on glass plates? freehand with a comb (rather thin coating) or with some kind of frame.
i tried last week with magnetic sign material and it wasn't strong enough for glass plates. only maybe with very thin glass. 
probably it would be easier to coat the gelatin without chromate and sensitize later? has someone already tried spirit sensitizing like in carbon?
