Dpreveiw.com should slake your thirst for information about digital camera
gear, lots of data and photos to parse through. 

Please take a look at the new Olympus EP-1. I'm not endorsing this model but
it could possibly be just the ticket for you. But it's not inexpensive and
may not be as pocket-able a camera you are looking for. It has a 4/3 sensor
size, the same as a compact DSLR so the image quality is probably
exceptional. 

I recently purchased a Canon G10 which I certainly like a lot but some might
say the Panasonic LX3 has a little better image quality in a smaller package
at the expense of zoom power. Both of these have tiny sensors but the
quality of the images can be very impressive as long as you don't shoot
above 400 ISO.

Needless to say there is a confusing array of choices for camera models. A
nice problem to have.
