I always
differentiated between discovery and invention as follows:
Discover:
to find a natural phenomenon. E.g. Herschel might have discovered iron ions’
sensitivity to light.
Invent:
to create something human-made. E.g. using iron ions’ sensitivity to
light Herschel invented the cyanotype process. The key word here is process.

invented
Mike Ware asks himself the same question in this article, about the
"invention" or "discovery" of cyanotype by Herschel.

Hi folks,
It's not alt but I'd like to know if a process is discovered by someone or
invented by someone?
Take cyanotype for instance, it was discovered or invented?
Thanks in advance,
Joao
