Thanks Katharine. I Have the book and some software somewhere to dither and output the negs although I don't think they would be good enough for iron based stuff. Would it? Do you think?

The thing that gave me smooth gum prints from laser printer negatives
was printing the negatives as bitmaps with stochastic dithering,
adapting Dan Burkholder's instructions for preparing digital
negatives for the imagesetter.
