Sorry to hear of Judy's alergy to turps...as I mentioned earlier, I'm also involved in oil painting forums and the discussion of sensitivity to solvents is a major and ongoing one.

Another thing to be very wary of is D-Limonene (sp?) which is a citrus derived solvent that is often suggested as an alternative to both turps and mineral spirits.  Smells orange-y but can have the very same allergic reaction as turps.  Odorless Mineral Spirits are also to be handled with caution...if I sound like I'm being a nag, please forgive me but I've heard too many horror stories like Judy's from others who have had to curtail their artistic endeavours because of these kind of reactions.

Photographic developers have a similar sort of alergy curve...everything is going along fine but one day you're allergic to Metol or Hydroquinone and it's serious.  When I was back in college "real men never use tongs" was the mantra...how much residual Dektol is living in my liver is anybody's guess but I wised up relatively early and am very careful nowadays.

Anyway, not to go too OT or sound like the voice of doom but please heed the advice about solvents.
Sparingly if at all.
