RE: Miracle size for gum

Hi,

I can't imagine that it has to be heated. I received a preliminary reply from Peter who says he will send a full explanation on the application of Aquapel tomorrow. I'll let you know,

David and Loris,

Thanks for the links. David I did look at the waterproof Unibond a few days
ago but the quantity and price was a bit much. I might see if I can get a
sample from them. The regular Unibond might work and I do have some.

I’m interested in the Aquapel too but if it needs heating then I think I’ll
stick to gelatine J. I’d be interested in Peter Blackburn’s method.

John.

Hi Loris,

I have a bottle of aquapel but no idea how to apply it. I have an email in
to Peter Blackburn, who uses it for gum I believe. I'll let you know what he
says. If you want to try it let me know..

Christina, aquapel sounds extremely plausible to my ears, since it's
already used as an internal sizing agent in many papers which are
friendly to iron processes. (Most notably pure pt which is
incompatible with gelatin sizings AFAIK... Also new cyanotype and
argyrotype which are pretty picky about paper.) OTOH, aquapel comes in
different strengths and properties depending on the application (it's
also used as a concrete additive for instance), so one has to grab the
right one and use it in the right dilution in order to achieve with
the purpose. Meanwhile, aquapel could be a trademarked name for a
generic monomer/polymer, therefore I'm not sure how to ask about it to
chemistry suppliers.

Loris.
