Hi Diana,

Vuescan is excellent scanning software that support hundreds of flatbed and film scanners, including your 1680. If you plan on scanning for years to come, you should purchase the "Pro" version that includes lifetime updates, a terrific deal in the digital era.

Lion is a mixed bag. I like it because, for one thing, it brought back the sort-by-size option in search windows. Often I'm interested in the largest version of an image and they broke the Size column a couple OS versions ago. Jill got an iMac with Lion and retired her mouse after just one day because she really enjoyed the trackpad and all the gestures that are supported in Lion.

So just download and enjoy Vuescan and don't worry about buying new scanners! Hope this helps.

Dan

G4 was getting terribly slow, so, after 11 years, I went the whole hog and bought an iMac with Lion. I had no idea there would be no driver to connect my scanner with Lion (apparently an Apple issue). I can only get Apple's image capture (very limited), and cannot use any Silverfast software as I have done so in the past.
