.23 is the yield of casein from dry powdered milk, not from washed curds: 
these last are "wet casein". Assuming a .23 factor it would mean that the 
wet curds have a 1.00-0.23 = 0.77 (77%) content of water, which (if I 
remember well) has not been yet measured.

If one is combined with dry dichromate, then you can assume that its 
concentration is double because it will not be further diluted 1:1.
