Marek,

I know for a fact in my research today, if I learned anything, casein was in commercial carbon tissue in the late 1800s. I have a sneaking suspicion it was in a couple other papers, too, though the papers were said to be of "gelatin compounds." This was also during the time of Artigue paper which was said to be "the best."

The problem with researching is this: gum printing and casein printing were both termed "carbon printing" at the beginning along with carbon! I remember Katharine Thayer, bless her soul, refuting me on that saying it wasn't true. Well, I have all the BJP pages photographed or xeroxed to prove it. Then the term was "pigment printing" for a while. It is verrry difficult to separate it all out then when the names were not so distinct.

So you ask a good question.

Time for bed...

Chris
