Diana,
That is too funny! And here, I thought I was the only one :) Honestly, I am often embarrassed to admit these things, because I chalk it up to error on my part. So, I too was glad to know that someone else had experienced this strange phenomenon—thank you for your willingness to share!
I am printing with another pack of paper today, hoping for better results. However, I am really excited about this Magnani Platinum. It's wonderful to hear of an alternative to COT 320. I look forward to trying that out soon . .
Thanks!Amy

I always think it's just me-- that someone out there has it out for me, and so I order this stuff, and the person who takes my order turns around in the warehouse, and says to no one in particular, "Hey-- I don't like the way she sounded-- let's send her that bad batch over there sitting on the lower shelf." And then everybody nods in agreement, and off it goes to land on my doorstep. ;) Well, I couldn't find anybody who had it in stock, so I did order online from the U.S. office http://www.bergger.com/store In the past, I'd mostly ordered from B&H-- never an issue-- but they were all out.

I think Bostick & Sullivan also sells it-- but it's quicker and cheaper shipping) for me to order from NY. I didn't notice a difference in choice, except in size-- but it does come in different weights, too. I think I ordered the lighter weight. It's gorgeous stuff and relatively inexpensive, I thought.

I was using a digital negative, so I re-did the negative-- thinking that might be the problem. Still grainy. So I printed the same thing on Arches Platine-- no problem at all. I discovered an old sheet of COT320 I had, from a year or so ago-- and printed it on that. It was perfect. So-- this whole new batch of COT320 I got seems to be awful (for pt/pd). I don't know if this is a permanent change, or I just got a bad batch. It's very annoying when that happens. On the other hand, I had recently purchased this Magnani Revere paper and printed some pt/pd on it-- and it was really so so nice-- now my favorite paper for pt/pd. Haven't yet tried anything else on it.

Last year was mostly a disaster doing that with argyrotype so I was expecting the same this year with VDB (I try to alternate between kallitype, VDB, and argyrotype when teaching) but Canson and Strathmore pulled through as being great paper choices.
