Jennifer,

Your first results with Bromoil exactly mirror my own. Although it was 20
years ago when I tried it, I remember clearly the disappointment of seeing a
faint reversed image. While I can't remember exactly what I did, I know that
after two weeks of solid work one Christmas vacation, I got it to work pretty
well including Bromoil transfer. While I can't find my notes from the time
some of the things I remember that worked.

For me the bleach solution was what seemed to make or break the ability of
the print to take ink. I kept increasing the amount of acid in this solution
and eventually switched to sulphuric acid. With this I was able to get a
definite swelling of the emulsion even with a supercoated paper (at that time
I was using Duponts Velour Black).

After much experiment with brushes I would usually start out with a brayer
because I found it easier to pick up the ink with a brayer, then finish the
print with brushes. At that time I was also playing with Collotype a similar
process in regards to inking. I remember trying different glycerin/water
combinations in the soaking.

Good luck,
