My first darkroom sinks I also made from wood, covered with multiple layers of
paint (called liquid plastic in Germany, used to paint concrete floors). But
over the years little surface damages caused the wood to swell due to
penetrating water and as I like to wipe out the water to the drain with a rubber
squegee, some paint was rubbed off from these hills.

My new sinks were made for me from 8 mm PVC according to my needs. They work
perfectly, were rather cheap (1/3 of those from the photographic industry), can
be cleaned without the danger of hurting the surface and will - hopefully - last
forever.
