Thanks for the very interesting remarks about the pronounciation of
"Neipce." Actually when M. Farge told me what the correct pronounciation
was I (and my wife) discussed the apparently missing accent marks. However,
I have noticed that when French words are incorporated into English
documents by English-speaking authors, accent marks are often lost. I
thought that might have been what happened in this case. This was not an idle
question for me. I teach Geology as well as Photography and a few other
science course. Quite a few French words and phrases appear in Geology and
,of course, in Physics we use the S.I. system of measurement. Consequently,
I like to make an effort to get things right.
