I realize that there is a definate bias towards fiber based paper for
fine art work because of all the problems with the early RC papers and
the old polycontrast papers lack of tonal range. However, I urge you to
keep an open mind and take a look at the tonal ranger of Kodak Polymax
and Ilford Multigrade IV Deluxe. I have and I have found that they
rival if not equal some of the so-called fine art papers. As far as
the plastic coating is concerned, very stable plasics are now being used
such as polyester D (Mylar). (thats plastics) It may be that these RC
papers are actually more archival that fiber based papers since all of
the hypo is more easily removed. Remember also that Ilfochrome Classic
Deluxe color prints, when laminated with a UV filter, are warrented
for 200 years and these are essentially RC papers. I have sold a few of
these prints and told the buyer that if the print fades in the next
200 years to bring it back and I will replace it free. ;-)
