Let me put on my archivist's hat to answer your question. Conservators
have a rule which says, "don't do anything that can't be undone." We
do not like dry mounted prints because of the possible effect of the
mounting board and adhesive.

Why do photographers insist on dry mounting their prints? Other types
of fine art prints are not dry mounted. No one dry mounts a watercolor.
Whats wrong with the standard method of using a window matt and
mounting corners. Archivists perfer this method. BTW acid-free matt
board, acid-free corners and mylar corners are available.
