Van Dyke, pressing and contrast

Two further points:

I remember having to hand steam press a ten foot Van Dyke on untrated calico.
The image turned black but when I tried water-colour paper, also made from
cotton, the image stayed brown.

An effective way of getting the most out of the negative is to over expose and
bleach back in very dilute ferrri.
