My bank is 14 lights, and I change 7 of them every New Year. The sockets
are labelled "odd and even" so I know which I replaced last year. Older
bulbs "seem" to take longer to start up (turn on). I don't know if that is

a funtion of the bulb, or if I have cheap ballasts (I know that is true!).

I can't say my system isn't overkill, but I do know everything stays nice
and repeatable.

As to "Macy's" question, my bulbs are about 1-1/2 inches from my print, and
are close enought together that I don't think a diffusion sheet would
improve anything.
