PLEASE READ: Quoting previous messages...

Hi all,
This message is just to give you an idea of the do's and don'ts of
quoting other messages in your mail to the list. I'll keep it short, so
please read it.

DO limit the amount of text you quote. Most people would have already
read the message you're quoting, so just quote enough to put your reply
in context. Remember: people may be paying to read the same material
more than once, so limit the amount of material for them.

DON'T quote all of a message verbatim. Doing so has two effects:
1. it's a lot of stuff people have seen before, so doesn't add anything
to the message as a whole.
2. if you quote the header, the listproc will reject the post (it looks
for message IDs in the header to tell if the message is a duplicate).

DO try and flag the quoted text. Many mail readers will have a feature
that allows you to do this. If your's doesn't, the put quotes around it
and attribute it to the original author or something.

Simple eh? Let's try and keep the number of posts with a new to quoted
text ratio of less than unity to a minimum - makes it easier to read :-)

cheers
-steve
