I was talking about multicolour gum printing where ' kick in the guts' versions
of 'gee' are not dependent on the number of coats as a full range of tone on a
step wedge can be got from three coats.

The strength of the layers is obviously important in CMYK but there are a hell
of a lot of other factors to be taken into account which is probably the reason
for using more than three coats.

But in this case 'seeing' is understanding.

I am not suggesting that people should not achieve what they will in the manner
they will.
