About four years ago now I succumbed to bits and bytes and operate a
smooth runnin Mac Quadra 800 avec le twenny 4 megs 'o dat dare important
memory. me wallet couldn't bear the large rip. 'Twas torn
asunder....but, ya know...got me a new pocketbook. My motto is : Income
rises to meet expenditures ... IF they are seriously valid and of
personal interest.
I don't scan because I aint got no scanner.
I don't Kodak CD, 'cause though I gotta da player, the shekels would fly
out the window (or lose dough.)
So, I have this here Hi-8 video cam that'll focus close and I "scan"
w/that. Hold me negs to the ever lovin light and, zooop, they jump into
Photoshop. Work on them dogs and print out as a b/w bitmap on maylar
using my 300dpi el cheap laser dog printer. print them snakes up the
darkroom, and, voila, a half way decent image for pennies, or pence, or
centimes, or yen.
One can also go to your neighborhood 1-Hour joint and they'll put a roll
of b/w or color onto a floppy for about five bucks, 3.5 pounds, 25
francs, 2 something deutchmarks, 500 + or minus yen.
None of the resolution is superb...not what many of here speak of. But,
when you work w/pixels, it's like talkin to atoms. I feel like
Heisenberg (Werner) for you can place anything anywhere you wish.
Printing now is becoming very good. Went to Seybold last week and the
quality and manipulation is all quite superb. New inks w/pigment make
long lasting images. Even the newer Iris inks are about as long lasting
(according to Mr. Wilhelm) as a color print.
Now, as soon as that stock I purchased rises .... I'll leap into the
newer computer world of the 604e chip.
Mega fun
Mega fun.
