Many thanks to everyone who replied to my posting on thursday. Your
suggestions lead me to be even more suspect of my water supply as the culprit.
Considering that the tools and techniques I've been using have been producing
satisfactory results for quite a while, and the only variable that can't be
controlled (at this point) is the water,I'll be installing some new water
filters this weekend. I hope a softening system won't be needed, but I won't
be surprised if I get to meet the Culligan man soon.

I was intrigued by Terry's suggestion to use both EDTA and Kodak's Hypoclear as
clearing baths. In conversations with Martin Axon (who developed Platine), he
recommended using Hypoclear because EDTA is a principal ingredient. Terry,
have you found that a separate series of EDTA baths to be more effective?
