The reason the EDTA helps the FeOx dissolve is that the EDTA is chelating
some of the Fe out of solution, driving the dissolution forward. This sounds
like a case of where it *looks* like the "right thing" is happening, but it's
not.

I'd show the equations, but I'm poor at ASCII art.

In this case, a good portion of the EDTA (which is a pain to dissolve and
somewhat expensive) is simply allowing you to substitute FeOx for Oxalic
Acid.
