In my experience, a laser printer does not provide the necessary density for
photo negs, nor the necessary quality, either. Dye sub printers (such as the
inexpensive Fargo Primera) do a terrific job on special transparency
material (used with their special ribbon) and make positives from which negs
can easily be made. Some of the new ink jet printers (such as the Epson
Stylus Pro) which also require special transparency material, do a fair
buildup providing you make the "black and white" using all four colors. But
I have never seen a satisfactory laser printer transparency that is good for
anything except overhead projection!
