The MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) currently has a show taken from their
Steiglitz collection. These include a number of photogravures that
he published, including a some from Camera Work (I do have mixed
feeling about taking a book apart for the illustrations.) In some
cases the show displays a gravure next to a silver print from the
same negative. This is similar to the Weston show they mounted a
couple of years ago where they hung an original Weston next to the
same image printed by Brett (under the father's supervision, no less).
The differences were startling. This show is up until late December.
I haven't seen the Steiglitz show yet, though I plan to soon.
The DeCordova Museum (in Lincoln, a western suburb, you'll need a car
to get there, but well worth it) has a Steichen exhibit currently. I
haven't seen that either, but my wife & 7-yr old son are seeing it this
afternoon (while I'm at work :-(), so I should have a full report on it
tomorrow. I understand that it includes a number of his platinum and
gum prints, but my sources weren't really clear. Anyway, I'll know more
soon.
Hope this helps.
