PSA is the abbreviation (and popular name) for the Photographic Society of
America, the largest general photographic organization in the world. The PSA
Journal is a very slick publication furnished to members; more than a house
organ, it contains many How-to-do-it and technical articles, as well as
analyses of contemporary work and historical accounts. The photographic
archive at PSA Headquarters has major works of most famous photographers; in
the 1930's, most famous "art" photographers were members.

"FPSA" is a distinction, meaning "Fellow of the Photographic Society of
America." It is earned by proficiency in photography, helping others through
teaching and writing, and volunteering for society duties. (Unlike the Royal
Photographic Society of Great Britain, the only other distinction is "APSA"
for Associate, which must be earned prior to being eligible for the
Fellowship. The RPS has one below Associate, which is LRPS - at the moment I
can't remember what the "L" it is. I also earned an Associateship in the
RPS, but I don't use the ARPS to which I am entitled because I am no longer
a member - dues are roughly about three times that of the PSA.)
