As someone with a experience of both digital and hybrid systems ie scanned film
I can say that it is cheaper and for amateur and fine art process worker
preferable to shoot on film then scan for digital manipulation. Without further
information about what the desired result of going digital is it is difficult to
give further advice, I would love to know what you are trying to do and to offer
any help. Digital has many facets and problems to be overcome just like
conventional process it also has more than its fair share of black art and
bullshit attached. At the end of the day it's just some more tools to use to get
pictures and ideas across.

P.S. Risa's point about file sizes from digital cameras was not correct; files
of over 100Mb (big enough for good A0 prints) have been produced by fine art
workers without any silver halides in sight.

Don't believe the hype.
