Hello again,

Has anyone heard of the catatype process? An article in The Camera,
December 1904 says "Photographic reproduction without light," based on
"chemical phenomenon known as catalysis," in this case the "decomposition
of hydrogen peroxide into water and free oxygen ... by presence of finely
divided silver, or better platinum." Manganese sulfate developer, among
others, etc. etc.

"The catatype process is especially valuable when long exposures are
needed in ordinary work, such as with gum papers.... [which] usually
require many minutes exposure..."

I thought it sounded like a joke, so checked further. Only finding was
Cassell, which had clearer description. But it was the above reference to
gum caught my attention..... even tho I couldn't figure it out. Anyone?

Cheers,

Judy
