As long as the plastic of the bags is chemically inert -no
plasticisers, colouring and other stuff that can gas out- there is no mayor
problem in wrapping boxes or their contents in plastic bags. One has to
realise that the climate has to be within certain limits to make this a
good way of keeping things. When the surrounding climate is too wet the
climate in the bag can become a reason for funghi growth (veeeeery
ssloooowww creepy crawlies) and the thought protection becomes suddenly
something different.
Materials for bags can be polyester (Melinex) or polyethylene,
these bags have to be of so called virgin material: non recycled quality. A
way of archiving material is to keep the stuff in vacuum pouches of a gas
tight plastic, but then you have to break the seal to be able to view the
contents of the pouch.
