Hello everybody
This is my firsth nessage. I'm interested in PT/PD printing and i have just
started experimenting.
At the moment i'm working in the classical way :
**PAPER =3D Poggi( by Arches available only in Rome) Arches=
Aquarelle/Platine
**COATING =3D double by brush (i have also built an acrilic rod but only=
used
few times)
**DRYING =3Dby drying cabinet, temp. no more than 30=BAC.[130=BAF.]
**CONTRAST AGENT =3D potassium clorate in the sensitizer
**PT/PD =3D 50%+50% for now (from B&S)
**DEVELOPER =3D mostly ammonium 20=BAC.[77=BAF.] i'm trying to get neutral=
blacks
**FIX: =3DKodak hipo clear. i used HCL but yellow everywhere at any
percentage. Thanks to a David Fokos message, white is back again.
**NEGATIVES =3Doriginal neg. enlarged onto 4x5 Kodak Tech.Pan,developed in=
low
concentration paper developer. positive enlarged onto N31P developed in Agfa
G5, for final neg.(i started developing in HC110 but i had a very hight=
fb+f).
**PRINTING =3Dfilm flattened in a sandwich of 2 glasses, one of them =BD=
inch thick;
several fluorescent lights BLB 40W , 7cm. [3 inc.] from film.
This is my story and at the moment i'm not very happy with results. I know i
can get a better quality, i have seen few PT/PD prints really terrific.
I have 2 problems:
-A- lack of sharpness. I will experiment with paper, because i have mostly
used POGGI paper that is very textured,if it will not succed i will try a
different printing frame.
-B- Extension grays too short(blacks too closed / whites too short / Dmax
is ok)
May be i have to calibrate the all process jet: a perfect negative/right
emulsion mix, and so on.
I'm now asking to myself: Do i have to use a different contrast
control(dicromate or hidrogen peroxide)? =20
Dicromate seems to be used mostly to avoid grain problem but i dont have
grain at the moment, and h. peroxide seems to be good in the sensitizer but
not in developer because it will loose his effect after a while.
Any sugestion is wellcome.=20
P.S. Any news about an orthochromatic film from 3M called CN FILM ?
i know it comes in big sizes,it's not expensive but i dont know if it's a
lith film or a continuos tone film.
Pietro
