I'm going to stick my neck out and guess that your problems are the result
of two things. First, I would suggest useing a smooth paper and a print frame
that would apply even pressure to the neg and sensitized paper.You might
consider seizing the paper before sensitizing. Second, the problems with
tonal range may be because of the negative. I assume you know that a
negative that would give you a good gel-silver print is not ideal for platinium.My best platinium prints have been made with in-camera made negatives which
involved rating the film much lower than the manufacturer suggested and
using some home brew developers. One final thought. If you use potassium
chlorate in your sensitizer and the sensitized paper has any opportunity
to absorb moisture, you will get a very grainey image which, of course,
will not be very sharp.
