Robyn--I have had good results making Polaroid image transfers on silk,
canvas, leather and cotton. It's important to use natural fabrics--the dyes
don't absorb into synthetics. Wash the fabric first to get out the
conditioners put in by the manufacturers (except leather). I find that
dampening the fabric before transferring, and then processing it like a dry
transfer, keeping the fabric and negative warm during development, works
well. Liftoff seems more frequent than with paper until you get the hang of
working with fabric. Good luck. I teach workshops in Polaroid transfers and
just finished a book on Polaroid image and emulsion transfers, forthcoming in
June 97 by Amphoto Books. Let me know if you'd like to be on my mailing list
for workshops or info on the book. Kathleen Carr
