Larry makes a very good point here. The drop in units are reasonably priced
and allow one to put together a unit without any complicated wiring.
Unfortuantley, spacing is much greater than possible with single bulb
fixtures, which means that the unit must be used farther from the printing
frame. I have made both types of units. The drop in unit had to be placed
at about 6" from the contact printing frame to assure even exposures, while
the single bulb fixture could be used at about 2" from the frame. This
amounts to a *huge* difference in exposure times with alternative
processes. I estimate that an active printer would make up the extra time
needed to mount the single bulb fixtures in less than a week of printing.
Something to think about, yes?
