PLEASE READ: Virus warnings and the like

Hi all,
This is not meant as a slap on the wrist for anyone, just a friendly
reminder.

Please do not post messages to the list not related to alternative
photographic processes. This includes virus warnings, bulk email
messages regarding protests or last wishes of dying people, and any
unrelated advertisements.

In general, virus warnings distributed by email on a bulk basis
("Please post this to everyone you know...") are bogus. There are very
few ways to send a virus via email (as George pointed out, you have to
use something with a powerful macro language to fall victim, like MS
Word). In addition, the vast majority of list members are unlikely to
use the appropriate computer platform to fall victim to the same attack.

Politcal protests and messages have no place on this list either. There
is a majority of subscribers from the USA, but not a large majority.
Most of the rest of the list comprises people from the other five main
continents (no-one from Antarctica I'm aware of), and aren't interested.
Similarly for other nations: people external to your country are
unlikely to have any impact on internal matters.

The internet seems to attract a large number of people with last
requests. The young boy that wanted postcards/business cards is a
typical example. Please don't fall victim to these requests: they are
generally bogus.

Finally, advertisements to the list are permitted within certain
guidelines (see the archives, or drop me private email), but only if
related to Alternative Photographics Processes. Ads for magazines or
travel or anything else unrelated are not permitted. One of the main
reasons the list bars traffic from people who are not subscribed is to
filter this stuff out (and although I get it, and a heck of a lot of it,
there is no need to punish the list with it).

Hope I don't seem like an ogre - just wanted to set things straight.

cheers
-steve

p.s. Single word responses ("Sucker") are also not encouraged as they
tend to clog up mailboxes :-)
